Dinner with Jessica
Jan. 29th, 2017 01:11 pmBull had promised Jessica Huang dinner during the chaos of New Year's Eve, and he hadn't forgotten. He invited her properly and had spent part of the day browsing recipes. Just because he hadn't had much opportunity to cook as a mercenary didn't mean he'd never picked up the skills. The nice thing about Darrow was the variety of spices he could find - things that reminded him of Par Vollen, things that tasted and smelled like home. Learning the new names for everything had been the trick.
He'd neatened up the apartment; thanks to Dorian, it looked like a place where someone lived. There were some books on the shelves, many of them from the library; colorful but tasteful pillows and a throw blanket decorated the couch and the big arm chair in the living room. His odd little kitten was asleep on the back of the couch. It had extra toes and no tail, but it fit in well here, with a Qunari that was missing his left eye, the tips of his pinky and ring finger on the left hand, and wore a leg brace.
When the appointed hour got closer, he cleaned up and changed. Krem had to tailor half of what he wore: it was hard to find things for a man that was over seven feet tall in Darrow. Jessica struck him as a woman that could be very utilitarian, but he put out flowers on the table anyway - yellow and white chrysanthemums in a low vase. She reminded him of Vivienne in so many ways, though perhaps she didn't pamper herself quite as much as the Grand Enchantress did.
When he heard a knock on the door he glanced at the clock. Of course, Jessica would be perfectly punctual. He shook his head, amused, and opened the door to welcome her in.
